cam shafts
Camshaft is used to operate valves. It consists of a cylindrical rod running the length of the cylinder with a number of oblong lobes protruding from it, one for each valve. The cam lobes force the valves open by pressing on the valve, or on some intermediate mechanism, as they rotate.
Camshafts can be made out of several types of material. These includes Chilled iron casting, Billet Steel.

The pushrod also functions as a portal for transferring lubricating oil though the valve lifter and up to the cylinder head. This is quite a basic function, since the pushrod only acts as a pipe. It’s everything else the pushrod does that has a critical impact on its design.

valve tappets
The tappet are also termed a cam follower, or valve lifter, It is that part that runs on the camshaft and is made to move vertically by the action of the rotating cam. In an overhead valve engine, this tappet is fitted low down in the engine block. From there it drives a long thin ‘pushrod’, up to the top of the engine, above the cylinder head.

A rocker arm is an oscillating lever that conveys radial movement from the cam lobe into linear movement at the valve to open it. One end is raised and lowered by a rotating lobe of the camshaft. While the other end acts on the valve stem. When the camshaft lobe raises the outside of the arm, the inside presses down on the valve stem, opening the valve. When the outside of the arm is permitted to return due to the camshafts rotation, the inside rises, allowing the valve spring to close the valve.

connecting rod
A connecting rod is a rigid member which connects a piston to a crank or crankshaft in a reciprocating engine. Together with the crank, it forms a simple mechanism that converts reciprocating motion into rotating motion.
A connecting rod may also convert rotating motion into reciprocating motion, its original use. Being rigid, a connecting rod may transmit either push or pull, allowing the rod to rotate the crank through both halves of a revolution.
Today, the connecting rod is best known through its use in internal combustion piston engines, such as automobile engines.
